Mark was DFA [12 Aug 2007|08:48pm]

omgitsjenn
I don't get it. He was called up, and now to make room for someone he was DFA. :(

"To make room on the roster, infielder Mark Bellhorn was designated for assignment. Bellhorn made just five appearances for the Reds as a pinch-hitter and one as a defensive replacement."

EDIT 8/14/07: Mark is back with the Bats.

EDIT #2: 8/15/07: Mark is back with the Reds, lol. Poor guy is getting sent back and forth.

Mark Got Called Up! [31 Jul 2007|11:13pm]

omgitsjenn
He's #7 according to the roster! That's a number we haven't seen from him yet.

Moeller sent to Louisville: The Reds made no deals at Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline. The club's only roster move was sending third catcher Chad Moeller outright to Triple-A Louisville. The contract of veteran infielder Mark Bellhorn was selected from Louisville.

...

Bellhorn was signed by the Reds to a Minor League contract on Jan. 22 but did not make the club out of Spring Training. The 32-year-old veteran of six big-league clubs batted .243 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs in 88 games for Louisville while playing primarily at second base and shortstop.

"This will give us another pinch-hitter off the bench and a bit more latitude with double switches," Mackanin said. "He's a switch-hitter with the ability to hit a home run off the bench."

Moeller flew with the club to Washington and was not informed of the move until about three hours before game time. Bellhorn was already in town and available for Tuesday's game.

"We just felt we'd go with Bellhorn instead of Chad for the time being," general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "That decision was made this afternoon."

Pawtucket [25 Jul 2007|08:37pm]

omgitsjenn
I also went down for Monday's game! The weather sucked like it's been said.. especially when you sit out on the left field berm without any cover. I had to hang my hoodie up to dry when I got home, haha.

My pics also suck and aren't worth posting but I did MEET MARK AFTER THE GAME. It was amazing even if it lasted for .2 seconds. Stupid me left my Sharpie open too long so by the time he went to sign my ticket it was all dried out.. he had to ask one of the little kids in front of me for a pen, lol. It was nice to hear his voice in person, though. It was so quiet and definitely had the southern twang going on. <3

A couple from Pawtucket [24 Jul 2007|12:00pm]

sittingstill
I trekked down to Pawtucket for the Sunday and Monday games. Of course, Mark didn't play Sunday when the weather was gorgeous, so I could only get him in the dugout

and on the field after the Bats won.

Monday night, the cloudy skies and rain made it pretty awful for photos. All I have edited right now are a couple from a pre-game interview.

I'll post again when I've had a chance to edit more.

It was, at a minimum, nice to see him on the field again!

Pawtucket [20 Jul 2007|06:43am]

Bellhorn and the Bats will be in Pawtucket, starting tonight, for a 4 game series. I hope he gets a nice hand from the fans. For those of you who will be taking in any of the games, have fun and don't be shy about taking pictures.

I found a couple of photos from last weekend to wet the appetite.

And, for those who may have missed this:

Bellhorn's Home Run Propels Bats Past Clippers

LOUISVILLE, KY-Mark Bellhorn sent an eventual game-winning, three-run home run down the right field line in the fourth inning as the Louisville Bats beat the Columbus Clippers 4-2 on Wednesday. An early evening shower delayed first pitch by 16 minutes for the 6,675 in attendance at Louisville Slugger Field.
Bellhorn finished the night going 2-for-4 with three RBI. His home run, scoring Joey Votto and Aaron Herr, gave the Bats their first runs in over 12 innings

Saw these on the Cincinnati.com.

The photographer who did the mugshots this year let the players take their own. Some of the other ones are pretty hilarious.

Mark is going to the minors. =( [26 Mar 2007|09:53pm]

omgitsjenn
He was reassigned to the minors camp.

Reds reassign INF Bellhorn, OF Wise
Mark Bellhorn - 3B - CIN - Mar. 26 - 1:31 pm et

Reds reassigned INF Mark Bellhorn, C Ryan Jorgensen, INF Anderson Machado and OF Dewayne Wise to Minor League camp.

Bellhorn appeared to have a chance with Jeff Keppinger down, but the Reds apparently will keep just one reserve infielder in Juan Castro, suggesting that Ryan Freel might get a chance to make the occasional start at second or third. Josh Hamilton and Chris Denorfia figure to make the team as reserve outfielders.

Hopefully something happens and he'll get moved up. If he doesn't he'll be in Pawtucket in July! =)

Mark was put in at 1st late in the game. Had one at bat so far.. and was thrown out at first.

I was out to lunch but saw on the TVs at the bar that he was interviewed during the 2nd inning. If anyone comes across that interview (video) lemme know!

New pic! (finally!) [08 Mar 2007|02:42pm]

nellysaidspiffy
I'm mad I couldn't find any of his homer.. there were pics of everyone else that got one that night. :(

But here's one from Cincinnati.com from the Yanks/Reds game.

Mark Bellhorn throws from centerfield, where late day sun cast long shadows during batting practice.

There's also a pic of him throwing from second base on Yahoo. He has a weird facial expression but it's cause they caught him mid throw on a double play, aha.

Just a note.. [07 Mar 2007|01:27pm]

nellysaidspiffy
I just happened to look at the Sox's ST schedule.. and they play the Reds on St Patty's Day (March 17th) at 1PM.. and it's gonna be on NESN. Also, they play again on the 26th at 1PM on ESPN. Hopefully Mark will get some playing time!

Pretty much just talks about how he has been doing good, and how he's in the running for the 25th spot on the roster because the manager likes versatile players... and Mark certainly is one. :)

More quotes... [06 Mar 2007|08:11am]

nellysaidspiffy
From Cincinnati.com:

Bellhorn is the only infielder in the mix for the remaining spots. He has versatility on his side. He can play first, second and third base and he's a switch-hitter.

He hit .264 with 17 home runs and 82 RBI in '04. He's hit .201 in two years since.

He's looked good early in camp. He has a home run and five RBI.

"He's looked good everywhere we've put him," Narron said.

Bellhorn signed a minor-league deal with the Reds because he thought he'd be a good fit.

"A person like myself who can play different positions, hit from both sides of the plate, do a bit of everything, the National League is a good fit," he said. "I know Jerry likes to use his bench a lot. I can help out in those situations. It's an opportunity to play."

The downside with Bellhorn is he strikes out a great deal - 718 times in 2,093 big-league at-bats.

If Bellhorn doesn't make it, Ryan Freel would be used as an infielder as well as an outfielder.

Google Alert... [05 Mar 2007|04:51pm]

nellysaidspiffy
AROUND THE BELLHORN - Mark Bellhorn started Sunday's game against the Pirates at third base. So far this spring he's started games at first, second and now third.

"I'm going to play shortstop (today)," Bellhorn said. "Then maybe the outfield."

So next week will he be catching?

"That's the only position I've never played," Bellhorn said.

Bellhorn went 1-for-2 with an RBI against the Pirates and is now batting .444 in spring with a home run and five RBIs.

Link to article..

Love him, haha. He's doing awesome, too.. hopefully he works his way up to getting on the roster before ST is over! <3
